Each of Maine’s 16 counties has its own Superior Court (except for Aroostook County, with ones in Houlton and Caribou).
The Superior Courts are Maine’s courts of general jurisdiction and the only court where jury trials are available. A jury is selected and seated after attorneys on both sides conduct a selection process called voir dire. The empaneled jury will then be given the judge’s instructions.
Jury trials are not available in Maine district courts.
